3/21 Quote of the Day

“What you eat is like how you pray: Your Own Business. Not to be forced on others. Worship at Burger King or Chez Panisse, depending on your tastes, wallet and personal needs…Just don’t make me go there.”

– Sheila Himmel

This quote is funny in a subtly defiant way, almost like a child crossing her arms and turning her nose in the other direction.

3/17 Quote of the Day

“Did you ever stop to taste a carrot?  Not just eat it, but taste it?  You can’t taste the beauty and energy of the earth in a Twinkie.”

– Astrid Alauda

“Sugar is a type of bodily fuel, yes, but your body runs about as well on it as a car would.”

– V.L. Allineare

“And I find chopsticks frankly distressing. Am I alone in thinking it odd that a people ingenious enough to invent paper, gunpowder, kites and any number of other useful objects, and who have a noble history extending back 3,000 years haven’t yet worked out that a pair of knitting needles is no way to capture food?”

– Bill Bryson

“And, of course, the funniest food of all, kumquats.”

– George Carlin

“Always remember: If you’re alone in the kitchen and you drop the lamb, you can always just pick it up. Who’s going to know?”

– Julia Child

“It’s so beautifully arranged on the plate – you know someone’s fingers have been all over it.”

– Julia Child

“Cheese – milk’s leap toward immortality.”

– Clifton Fadiman

My apologies, Chickeneers! It’s been a hectic and busy week, so I haven’t had the time to make my daily Quote of the Day posts. Here are some to make up for that (including today’s quote), and I hope you find some to be humorous, if not all. My personal favorite is the third quote down by Bill Bryson 🙂

3/09 Quote of the Day

The most remarkable thing about my mother is that for thirty years she served the family nothing but leftovers. The original meal has never been found.
– Calvin Trillin

I thought this quote was a little quirky and different than most food quotes out there. It’s pretty funny in a subtle way. I do wonder whatever happened to the original meal…

3/06 Quote of the Day

“1 billion people in the world are chronically hungry. 1 billion people are overweight.”
― Mark Bittman, Food Matters: A Guide to Conscious Eating with More Than 75 Recipes

Although this quote is intended to be very obvious with its irony, I can’t help being a little surprised by this. It just makes you stop for a minute to think and go, “Huh. How queer.”
